The real question is why an Opposition, led by one of the squeaky clean MPs in the expenses scandal, didn’t already have this ban on paid directorships/consultancies for their parliamentary group.
Transparency International says that the UK is only 14th among the world’s least corrupt countries. Denmark and New Zealand lead that list of least corrupt. TI looked at 19 European countries: “No country comes even close to having ideal safeguards in place on open/ethical lobbying.”
